Local Tourism in South Sudan

South Sudan is a beautiful tourist destination with vast diversity of fauna and flora, scenic beauty, diverse culture, historical sites and variable climate. It is home to one of the largest animal migration routes in the world, as well as having significant populations of classic safari animals such as elephants, giraffes, lions, and cheetahs. But the country’s local tourism is still under developed due to the following;

  • The security situation has not yet been solved and the disbarment exercised is not yet over.
  • There are currently few banks and no landline telephones; electricity supplies are erratic and unreliable
  • The income level of the majority of the people is still low
  • Infrastructure to support tourism is not yet in place
  • Lack of awareness about tourism by the citizens in the country
