Education system in South Sudan consists of eight years primary education, followed by three years of secondary education, and then four years of university instruction.
Primary School (duration: 8 years)
Primary school has an official entry age of six and duration of eight grades in South Sudan.
Primary education is free in public schools to South Sudanese citizens between the ages of six and thirteen years. Students sit for the basic education certificate at the end of grade 8.
Secondary school (duration 3 years)
Secondary school has three grades: 9th, 10th and 11th. The students ages are about 14 to 18 years, while in secondary school. Students sit for the Sudan School Certificate (SSC) examination at the end of grade 11
University and other tertiary institutions
Students who pass their Sudan School Certificate may choose to progress to university where they can study for degrees or to other tertiary institutions that award diplomas and certificates.
