Air transport is of strategic importance to South Sudan as it guarantees an alternative gateway to other parts of the world and it is a landlocked country. It provides the most efficient and quickest transport means to and from South Sudan. The development of a safe, efficient and reliable air transport industry is thus among government’s priority programmes.
International Airport
South Sudan has Juba International Airport, which has regular international connections to Entebbe, Nairobi, Cairo, Addis Ababa, and Khartoum. Other international airport is Malakal International Airport with international flights to Addis Ababa and Khartoum, Wau, with weekly service to Khartoum and Rumbek, also with weekly flights to Khartoum.
The aviation industry in South Sudan is managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) which was established February 2013. Civil Aviation Authority is the government agency charged with the regulation and development of the air transport industry in South Sudan.
