Location
Nanyuki Town located in central-east Rift Valley region of Kenya northwest of Mount Kenya, is the capital of Laikipia County .It is situated just north of the Equator at 01’0.000″N, 374’0.120″E and 1,976 m above sea level. Nyanyuki is 116 km from Nakuru, 147 km from Nairobi and 537 km from Mombasa. It covers an area of 143 km².
History
Nanyuki was founded by British settlers in 1907 and derives its name from the Maasai phrase ‘Engare nanyuikie’, which translates to “the river of blood”. By 1930, Nanyuki’s potential justified the construction of a railway line linking the town to Nairobi.

According to the 2009 Census, 68,552 inhabitants live in the Municipal of Nanyuki.

Nanyuki Town is connected to the rest of the country by road, air and railway. It’s served by Nanyuki Airport just about 6.5 km south of the town. Buses and minibuses enable road movement within and without the town.
