About AfriFacto

AfriFacto is an African data and information platform designed to make statistics easier to discover, compare and understand. It brings country-level indicators and supporting source information together so readers can explore what the available data shows, examine differences across countries and years, and follow the underlying sources.

What AfriFacto provides

The platform includes a country catalogue, an interactive data explorer, indicator definitions, country comparisons, rankings and research content. These features are intended to help readers navigate data and understand the context behind published figures.

Africa data coverage

AfriFacto’s country catalogue currently contains 55 countries. The observations database currently contains records for 54 countries, so not every country in the catalogue necessarily has available observations. Coverage varies by indicator and reference year.

The data engine currently includes nine indicators across demographics, the economy, digital access, infrastructure and labour. Recorded observation years range from 1960 to 2025. This range describes the years represented in the database; it does not mean every indicator has continuous data across that entire period or that the latest value is available for every country.

Indicators available

  • Demographics: Population, life expectancy and urban population.
  • Economy: Gross domestic product (GDP), GDP growth and inflation.
  • Digital: Internet access.
  • Infrastructure: Electricity access.
  • Labour: Unemployment.

Visit the indicator catalogue for definitions, units and source indicator codes, or use the Africa Data Explorer to investigate available observations.

Sources and methodology

AfriFacto’s data engine includes source information and indicator codes for its configured measures. Several of the current indicator codes correspond to the World Bank’s World Development Indicators. Source availability and metadata can vary by observation. Readers should consult the linked source and the Data Sources & Methodology page when interpreting or reusing figures.

Accuracy, context and limitations

Published statistics can be estimates, can be revised by their original publishers, and can use definitions that differ across indicators or periods. A missing value should not be interpreted as zero. Figures should be compared only after checking the country, indicator definition, unit, reference year and source.

AfriFacto aims to make these distinctions easier to investigate. The presence of a value in the platform does not mean that every source is error-free or that all countries have complete, directly comparable or current data.

Editorial principles

AfriFacto aims to present data with clear attribution, explain indicator definitions where available, distinguish available evidence from interpretation, and make known limitations visible. Read our Editorial Standards for further information about sourcing, responsible interpretation and reporting suspected errors.
