Addis Ababa is the capital city of Ethiopia covering a total area of 203.5 sq miles (527 km²) and it was founded by Emperor Menelik 11 in 1887. Addis is the third highest capital in the world standing at 2440 m.
History
Addis Ababa became the capital city of Ethiopia in 1887. The site of Addis Ababa was chosen by Empress Taytu Betul and later Menelik II became Emperor of Ethiopia. Emperor Menelik’s contributed to the growth by planting of numerous eucalyptus trees along the city streets.
