Over 70% of the municipal solid waste is vegetable matter which can be utilized for energy production.<\/p>\n<p>The residents of Kampala City produce more than 500 tons of garbage on a daily basis of which more than 73% is vegetative matter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biogas<\/strong><br \/>\nThe waste can be used to produce biogas which can be used for domestic fuel and for power generation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electricity generation<\/strong><br \/>\nThe combustible waste matter and the biogas can be used for electricity generation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Production of manure<\/strong><br \/>\nThe end product from biogas generation is rich in nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and humus and can be used to replace imported fertilizers and increase agricultural productivity on farms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Municipal waste in Uganda is generally composed of wet carbon and nitrogen rich materials that include: organic waste from households, agro industrial waste slaughter houses, food industry and agro waste: manure and straw.
