Judges for the High Court are appointed by the president; Judges for the Court of Appeal are appointed by the president and approved by the legislature.<br \/>\nThe Judiciary is the third arm of Government under the doctrine of separation of powers responsible for\u00a0 enforcing\u00a0 the law and order. The Lord Chief Justice\u00a0 assisted\u00a0 by a\u00a0 Deputy Lord\u00a0 Chief Justice heads the Judiciary. The serving Chief Justice is Honorable Mr. Benjamin Odoki, and the Deputy Chief Justice is Honorable Alice Mpagi Bahegeine.<\/p>\n<p>The Judiciary structure is defined by the 1995 Constitution as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supreme Court<\/li>\n<li>Court of Appeal or Constitutional Court<\/li>\n<li>High Court<\/li>\n<li>Chief Magistrates Courts<\/li>\n<li>Grade I Magistrate\u2019s Courts<\/li>\n<li>Grade II Magistrate\u2019s Courts<\/li>\n<li>The Local Council Courts<\/li>\n<li>Family and Children Courts and<\/li>\n<li>Land courts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Judiciary mandate<\/strong><br \/>\nThe mandate of the Judiciary is defined by the 1995 Constitution as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Play a role of administering justice through resolving disputes between individuals and between the state and individuals.<\/li>\n<li>Interpret the Constitution and the laws of Uganda.<\/li>\n<li>Promote the rule of law and contribute to the maintenance of order in society.<\/li>\n<li>Safeguard the Constitution and uphold democratic principles.<\/li>\n<li>Protect human rights of individuals and groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Vision<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Vision of the Judiciary is \u201cJustice for All\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The mission<\/strong><br \/>\nThe mission of the Judiciary is; \u201cAn independent, competent, trusted and accountable Judiciary that administers justice to all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mission: To disperse justice to all people in Uganda, through timely adjudication of disputes without discrimination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Functions of the Judiciary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The functions of the Judiciary are;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To adjudicate civil and criminal cases<\/li>\n<li>To interpret the Constitution and the laws<\/li>\n<li>To promote human rights, social justice and morality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Administration Structure<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Chief Justice is the Head of the Judiciary, responsible for the administration and supervision of all courts in Uganda and may issue orders and directions to the courts necessary for proper and efficient administration of justice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Values of Judiciary in Uganda<\/strong><br \/>\nThe values of the judiciary are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Independence and impartiality<\/li>\n<li>Transparency<\/li>\n<li>Professionalism<\/li>\n<li>Integrity<\/li>\n<li>Accountability<\/li>\n<li>Equality and Respect<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Structure of Judiciary in Uganda<\/strong><br \/>\nThe structure of the judiciary of Uganda is as follows:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-467\" src=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2012\/10\/uganda Judiciary structure.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"434\" height=\"428\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>The Judiciary of Uganda includes the following<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/the-judicial-service-commission-of-uganda\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Judicial Service Commission of Uganda<\/a><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/the-republic-of-uganda-courts-of-judicature\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Republic of Uganda Courts of Judicature<\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The judiciary operates as an independent branch of government and consists of magistrate\u2019s courts, high courts, courts of appeal, and the Supreme Court.
