The Kasubi Tombs is a religious and cultural site located 5km on Kampala-Hoima Road from Kampala City Centre. It is the place where the Kabaka and others in Buganda\u2019s complex cultural hierarchy frequently carry out important centuries-old Ganda rituals.\u00a0 The royal enclosure was first built in 1881.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>World Heritage Site<\/strong><br \/>\nKasubi Tombs was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>The Tombs of Ssekabakas<\/strong><br \/>\nThe following four Kabakas (Bassekabaka) are buried at Kasubi:<span style=\"font-family: EYInterstate Light,serif\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Daudi Chwa II who ruled from 1879 to 1939<\/li>\n<li>Edward Mutesa II who died in 1969 in exile in London but whose body was returned to Uganda in 1971<\/li>\n<li>Basamula Mwanga II (1867-1903)<\/li>\n<li>Muteesa I (1835-1884).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>The Kasubi Hill Tombs area is divided as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>The Tombs area is located at the western end<\/li>\n<li>An area behind the Tombs\u00a0 contains buildings and graveyards<\/li>\n<li>The remaining\u00a0 area on the eastern end is used for agriculture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Buildings destroyed by Fire<\/strong><br \/>\nOn 16 March 2010, a fire broke out and completely destroyed some of the major buildings and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
