The country has 165 lakes with internal surface water resources estimated at 39 km3 yr-1, while groundwater is believed to be around 29 km3 y-1.<\/p>\n<p>The lakes are a home to different aquatic life and offer opportunity for fishing as well as boat cruising for tourists while viewing different wildlife<\/p>\n<p>The key lakes include the following;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/lake-victoria\/\">Lake Victoria<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/lake-albert\/\">Lake Albert<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/lake-bunyonyi\/\">Lake Bunyonyi<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/lake-edward\/\">Lake Edward<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/kabakas-lake-2\/\">Kabaka\u2019s Lake<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/lake-katwe\/\">Lake Katwe<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/lake-kyoga\/\">Lake Kyoga<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a style=\"line-height: 1.6\" href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/lake-george\/\">Lake George<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lake George and\u00a0 Lake Edward are connected by the <a href=\"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/kazinga-channel\/\">Kazinga Channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Smaller Lakes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The key smaller lakes include the following;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lake Nyabungo is located in Masaka District, Central Uganda,<\/li>\n<li>Lake Wamala is located in the districts of Mubende, Mityana and Mpigi in central Uganda.<\/li>\n<li>Lake Mutanda is located in Kisoro District in southwestern Uganda,<\/li>\n<li>Lake Kwania is in the Lira and Apac districts of the Northern Region of Uganda<\/li>\n<li>Lake Nyabikere, is only 13km from Fort Portal on Kamwenge Road<\/li>\n<li>Lake Nkugute is located along Mbarara-Kasese Highway in Rubirizi District<\/li>\n<li>Lake Kyaninga is a Crater Lake situated with the Fort Portal Crater field.<\/li>\n<li>Lake Saka located in Kabarole District in Western Uganda<\/li>\n<li>Lake Bisina is located in Eastern Uganda and was formerly\u00a0 called Lake Salisbury<\/li>\n<li>Lake Mburo is located in Kiruhura District in western Uganda<\/li>\n<li>Lake Bisina is Located on Kumi-Soroti Road in Kumi District<\/li>\n<li>Lake Opeta is located on Katakwi-Magoro Road in Katakwi district<\/li>\n<li>Lake Kitandra is located in Kanungu District adjacent to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda has been called a land of lakes because almost a third of the country is covered by water.
