{"id":1139,"date":"2012-12-29T15:21:02","date_gmt":"2012-12-29T15:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fortuneofafrica.com\/ug\/bugoma-forest-reserve\/"},"modified":"2012-12-29T15:21:02","modified_gmt":"2012-12-29T15:21:02","slug":"bugoma-forest-reserve","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/afrifacto.com\/ug\/bugoma-forest-reserve\/","title":{"rendered":"Bugoma Forest Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Location<\/strong><br \/>\nBugoma Forest Reserve gazetted in 1932 is located in Hoima District in Western Uganda and covers an area of 401km2.\u00a0 It is found on top of an escarpment east of Lake Albert on the edge of the Western Rift Valley.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vegetation<\/strong><br \/>\nThe vegetation of Bugoma Forest Reserve can be classified as medium altitude semi-deciduous forest and about half of the forested part of the reserve is occupied\u00a0 by Iron wood (Cynometra alexandri). The forest is drained by four small rivers\u00a0 namely Sonso, Waisoke, Wake and Bubwa which flow into Lake Albert.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attractions<\/strong><br \/>\nThe forest is endowed with a high biodiversity with 24 species of mammals , 465 species of trees, 359 species of birds , 289 species of butterfly and 130 species of moths.( Forest Department 1996a). The mammals include\u00a0\u00a0 Monkeys, Chimpanzees, Buffaloes, Uganda Kobs and at times Elephants. Lake Albert and River Nkusi are also the major attractions.
