The Republic of South Sudan became independent from Sudan on 9 July 2011 after a referendum in January that year, which was secured as part of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement<\/p>\n<p>The total area of the country is about 619,745 square kilometres<\/p>\n<p>The country is landlocked and bounded by Sudan to the north, Ethiopia to the east, Uganda and Kenya to the southeast, Democratic Republic of Congo to the southwest and Central African Republic to the west.<\/p>\n<p>Equatorial climate with high humidity and lots of rainfall. The rainy season varies but is generally between April and November. Temperatures are moderate but vary depending on the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Water Resources<\/strong>: The River Nile is the dominant geographic feature in South Sudan, flowing across the country.
