It is located in Kadiogo province. The city is located in the center of the nation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>History of<\/strong><strong> Ouagadougou<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ouagadougou was created in the 15th century by the Mossi people who came from Dagomba, current Ghana.The French colonial army led by Voulet, and Chanoine conquered Ouagadougou on September 6, 1896.As a trading center, Ouagadougou attracted more traders and business people, especially those from Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, and Mali resulting into a population increase. The economic activities of the early French administrators in the Upper Volta did much to change the traditional economic life of Ouagadougou<strong>. <\/strong>When the country got independent on August 5, 1960, Ouagadougou became the capital city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Population<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The city covers 2,805\u00a0km<sup>2<\/sup> of land and it has a population of about 2.053 million people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor of<\/strong><strong> Ouagadougou<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The current mayor of Ouagadougou<\/em>city is Marin Casimir Ilboudo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attractions in<\/strong><strong> Ouagadougou<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bangr Weogo Park<\/li>\n<li>Ouagadougou Cathedral<\/li>\n<li>National Museum of Music<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ouagadougou is the largest city and the capital of Burkina Faso.
